Christchurch trip from Wendy's Quilts and More

Two weeks ago I went to Christchurch to teach Wool Felt Applique to Canterbury Patchwork and Quilting Guild.

I took along a number of my samples so the ladies could see how wool felt can be used in quilting.

My version of Flower Garden - designed by Wendy Williams

Flocks by Night - also designed by Wendy Williams

We had a lovely day exploring all the different ways that wool felt applique can add colour and whimsy to cushions, bags and quilts. Attendees learnt new stitches to embellish their work and went away filled with new ideas.

We all enjoyed browsing through ...

String Quilts Your Way from Humble Quilts

What a fun class we had on Wednesday in Ferndale, WA.
It was called String Quilts Your Way

I give them the basic techniques (there are more than one, like most of quilting) and they make a string quilt they'd like. I give them plenty of examples ahead of class.

Busy quilters!

So many fun varieties!

Traditional with reproductions.
Plaids and dots.

What a fun variety of greens.

Anything goes! It will be great!

A quadrant of this block was already completed and she was doing a great job with the Y seams.

Diagonal is always a great option ...

Steppin' Out Class from Humble Quilts

I finished my little quilt project for class last night.
Oh my goodness, I love it!

I'm calling this Steppin' Out since I really feel like I'm taking a giant leap into my quilting business by doing a regular online class. My Etsy store is going well and I have several guild bookings, online and in person. I'm super excited to see this year unfold.

Thank you to those who have signed up for my online class! You will get the pattern and Zoom info in the next couple of days.

If you want to sign up ...

Kay shared her finished string quilt project that she started in class! I love it! What I love about my string class is you choose what string project you want to make! Great job Kay!

A best friend is like a 4-leaf clover,
hard to find

Have a great day friends!

Technical Difficulties from Humble Quilts

One positive thing, my son came over and helped me set up my 2 camera system set up so I can do workshops through Zoom. Because one is a new class for 2020 I had not been able to do it live before covid hit. Would any of you be interested in paying for a class for me to work a few bugs out? If I have enough interest I'll get it set up.

This is the class:

New for 2020!
String Quilts Your Way!
String quilts have been made since 1860. Most were foundation pieced for stability and ...

New Month, New Quiltmaker from From the Strawberry Patch...

Even though it seems as though each day slips silently into the next during these crazy days of the "new normal" (whatever that is), time really is moving forward and we've slipped into August already! Our daughter and oldest granddaughter spent a few days visiting from the Capital City. Now that Lucy Ann has completed third grade, it's high time for her to learn and utilize machine skillsĀ  for

Living History Series from Nestlings By Robin

Coming in 2020 (SO WEIRD to write that!)
I will introduce my Living History Series
of workshops for guilds to book in 2021.

How interested would you be in
seeing and touching and learning
about a 100+ year old
quilt and then making a small updated
reproduction of that same quilt?

That is what we will be
doing in each 3 hour class.
You aren't out a lot of time
or money and you get to
be a part of our quilting ancestry!

If you are super excited about
this idea, keep an eye out
for Houston next year ...

Anna Maria Horner (and the Peacock Party) from Wendy's Quilts and More

This week was so special.  I got to attend a lecture AND a class with Anna Maria Horner.

New Zealand really is a very long way away from all the quilting action in America, so when a quilting celebrity chooses to visit our country we all rejoice.

Anna Maria Horner with the quilt I made on her behalf

On Monday night I went to the lecture and heard about how Anna Maria journeyed from Art School to designing quilt fabrics.  Unlike many people who would give their right arm to be signed by Free Spirit Fabrics, Anna Maria didn't ...
